When the United Nation’s committe on eliminations of racial discrimination met in Geneva FROM 28 JULY TO 15 AUGUST 2008, Sweden was on the agenda. It’s almost unbelievable how Sweden allow discrimination and parade of racial groups to take hold in the society despite the fact that it runs contrary to the stipulations of the United Nations of which Sweden is a member.
Anyway the recent rise in acts of racism should be condemned and the latest that happened in the “so called rich people” area of Stureplan should be condemned.
The Swedish government (perhaps through the DO-the board or committee acting on reported cases of discrimination) should take this latest incident very seriously. The case has been reported to the DO and it should be monitored.
EAST BAR should be closed while the investigation is on. They should not be allowed to operate since they are well known as probably the most discriminatory bar/ restaurant in Stockholm. That is a very bad reputation and the bar should be closed until further notice.
To do nothing about the africans who were humiliated and tortured emotionally by the guards working for EAST BAR is to impress it on Africans in Sweden that they are not wanted. It will be a proclamation that the government of Sweden under Fredrik Reinfeldt is a supporter of racial behaviour.
Racism is a serious offence. It is criminal. If racists are known and not punished then the government is also racist one. The signals are dangerous for democracy and only justice and appropriate dispensation of if can bring confidence to the foreigners in Sweden.
There are many unreported cases of discrimination in Sweden because of the way the society is managed. Looking for extremely tangible evidence is the way of the police and the ordinary immigrant does not have confidence in the swedish police or other regulatory bodies.
This one case will continue to be highlighted for as long as possible until reprieve comes the way of the 3 africans that were humiliated at EAST BAR on the 19th of September 2008 at about midnight. the guards who were on duty know themselves especially the one that boasted that he has been working at EAST BAR for 6 years and 4 times a week. THAT the only people that will go into EAST BAR are the regulars that he can identify. There is no greater discrimination or racism beyond such a boastful proclamation by a man whose job is to maintain order.
Reinfeldt, the Swedish prime minister should consider himself on trial until we know the outcome of this abuse. To some people, this sounds like a minor case-being denied to go into a bar. To Africans or other foreigners in Sweden, it is not that simple. In many facets of our lives in Sweden, there are evidence of racism and as mentioned earlier people are living silently with this trauma because of the way the society is managed.
This is beyond EAST BAR. It is only a tip of the iceberg but JUSTICE must be done.
